If it wasn't for Manchester United's draw yesterday, then the race may be up already for Arsenal, who failed yet again to take advantage of United's slip up. It was a pulsating game, and with three goals inside the first 12 minutes it was a game for the neutrals - a typical North London derby between the two sides then.

Manchester United and Manchester City will be pleased with the draw mostly - it doesn't change very much in terms of the League table, with Spurs unable to draw level on points with City who stay fourth. United are now 6 points clear at the top - but the team behind is now Chelsea, who beat Birmingham 3 - 1, with Fernando Torres once again failing to score.

Arsenal went 3 - 1 ahead in the first half, but it should be no surprise that they let that lead go considering this season's mis-haps including losing a four goal lead to Newcastle. Against Liverpool Arsenal scored late on and conceded immediately after. Now, against Tottenham, they scored early on through Walcott and conceded just a minute later. The defending was poor, and Arsenal must improve. However, Wenger refused to rule his side out of the title race:

 "It's not over. We'll fight."

"Our mental strength is outstanding. We have faced criticism but this team deserves much more." 

"I didn't see any fail in our attitude, in our determination, in our quality. We just dropped physically in the second half."

Fabregas & Szczesny Contradict Wenger

Arsene Wenger is undoubtedly an excellent manager, he has been a big success at Arsenal and is a man of great knowledge and huge managerial talent. But when he recently claimed that coming second in the League is not a "disaster" - implying that his club would be happy with second place, it prompted more than a few raised eyebrows. Wenger is a winner, you can see from his reactions when his side loses, or suffer a bad result that he oozes the passion to win, however, defending his sides performances and position in the League when supporters have been waiting 6 years for a trophy is not the way to go to appease those fans.

I agree to an extent with what Wenger said; yes, there are 18 other teams in the League who would love to be in Arsenal's position, yes there are clubs all over the world that would give anything to be in the Champions League every year, and yes, every club would love to be in a comfortable financial position. But when fans have been waiting so long for any silverware, and the manager, some say does not buy enough big name players or spend enough money, it mus become frustrating.

Now Fabregas, who was in Arsenal's 'invincible' side of 2003/04 knows what it is like to win a trophy at Arsenal. The majority of Arsenal players currently at the club, do not, and the Arsenal captain has seen this situation coming for a while. He made some very intriguing and valid points too, especially as his manager only recently defended the clubs position on the issues he raises:

 “That the team are always in the Champions League, that we compete until the end, that we have young players, economic stability – for the board this is important. 

“But I imagine there will be a moment when you have to decide do you win things or not? 
The ‘Invincibles’ team (of 2003-4) is the best I have played in. 

“Now a lot has changed. From 2007 on I started to say, ‘We don’t win but we play very well’. After that you realise it doesn’t work. You enjoy it, during a part of the season, like this year, when we were in four competitions. 

“You say, ‘Here I have it all’. But then you cannot make the fi nal step and a decision has to be made – to go out to win or to develop players. But I imagine there will be a moment when you have to decide do you win things or not?"

"From 2007 on I started to say, ‘We don’t win but we play very well'. After that you realise it doesn’t work. You enjoy it, during a part of the season, like this year, when we were in four competitions.

“You say, ‘Here I have it all’. But then you cannot make the final step and a decision has to be made – to go out to win or to develop players.” 

These are genuine concerns from a player who has seen, and captained a side full to the brim with talent, yet unable to bring trophies home. It is sad really, that one of the greatest players of his generation may prove unable to bring Arsenal glory in the form of prestigious trophies.

When Arsenal's performances force their website to have to publish headlines like:

"Gunners let half-time lead slip in London derby on Saturday."

"Gunners lose ground after letting a four-goal lead slip."

"Last-minute mix-up ends Gunners' hopes of glory at Wembley."

It is a shame as the squad is full of talent, but, as their manager implies, their position isn't bad enough for supporters to complain or criticize. Arsenal's goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny agrees with his captain; he wants to win, and is not happy with settling with second place:

 "We are only thinking about winning the title, not who is behind us.

"We go into everything to finish first. We are Arsenal - we don't want to finish second and we definitely don't want to finish third. We just think about winning."

This is the right attitude to have, and Arsenal and their manager must have it when going into their game against Tottenham. It is crucial that they make the most of Manchester United's minor slip-up against Newcastle. Arsenal must win against their local rivals Tottenham to keep the pressure on United, because if they don't, quite frankly, they don't deserve to finish first. It will be a season of missed opportunities, avoidable slip-ups and unfortunate incidents that define Arsenal's season rather than trophies. This isn't what any Arsenal fans want, and it is surely not what Wenger wants.

Good Response Is Vital to Win League

Neither Arsenal nor Manchester United enjoyed good results over the week end. United lost to local rivals City in the FA Cup Semi-final, and, although Arsenal didn't lose, it must have felt like a loss with the equalising penalty so late on in the game for Liverpool. Both results were crushing. Players' morale will have taken a blow, but it is who recovers first, and gets up from the low blows they have been dealt who are most likely to win the League. A quick recovery is crucial.

United are now favourites to win their 19th League title after Arsenal's week-end draw, with Sir Alex Ferguson's side 6 points clear at the top, but the Scot knows that any slip up could be capitalized on by Wenger's side. It is still a tight battle, and a battle either could yet win. Arsenal however will have to win every remaining game to stand a chance, and they must start with beating their local rivals Tottenham on Wednesday. If they lose or draw this game, it is surely over, but if they win, it keeps the heat on United, who they are yet to play.

United play on Tuesday against Newcastle at Saint James' Park. The atmosphere will be loud and tense, but with Rooney back, United will be favourites. The English striker is back from his FA ban for the swearing incident, and will be eager to make an impact after watching his side crash out of the FA Cup in great animation on the sidelines. United will hope he is bursting with goals - goals which will propel United further away from Arsenal, and closer to lifting the Premier League trophy.

Sir Alex has been here before, and he knows the huge importance of the Newcastle game:

"Going to Newcastle is the most important game we have coming up because the league is still our first priority. The Premier League and the Champions League are the two priorities at this club.

"The players had a big adrenaline surge for the semi-final with Manchester City but we need to win on Tuesday. And that's why Newcastle and the home game with Everton next Saturday are vital - after that there are only four games left and then we go to Arsenal the following week.

"So it's absolutely crucial for us and I think everybody knows when you go to Newcastle you have to deal with the atmosphere up there. They have fantastic supporters and you know they will be on your backs."

This game is vital in the Premier League race, and it is all about picking the players up and getting on with the job. There is a danger that some players may be mentally and physically drained because of the adrenaline of the Cup game, but with United's strength in depth, this should not be a problem.

Arsenal on the other hand do face a massive test against Tottenham, who, as the clubs local rivals, would love to rub salt in the wounds of the Gunners whilst moving closer to the Champions League places. It should not be forgotten that this is also a must win game for Tottenham, as their exploits in Europe this season have shown, they need the prestigious competition to keep their top players such as Bale and Van der Vaart at the club whilst using it as a valuable asset to attract top players to the club.

A good response to a bad result is vital, and whichever team wins the three points in the next few days will certainly have a better chance of winning the League. But anything can happen in football.

Tottenham's chances of progressing into the semi finals of the Champions League were pretty much dead in the water before this game even started. It would have been the biggest and best comeback in Champions League history if it were to have been completed, but it was never very likely. Spurs held hope as they kept it a 0 - 0 a half time, but when a Ronaldo shot left the former Manchester United players' right boot, Tottenham's 'keeper, Gomes was left looking like another Robert Green.

It was all too much for Gomes and Spurs, and this goal simply emphasises the overpowering force that Tottenham faced over the two ties. A very good team who are entertaining and attacking, with two fantastic wingers and a brilliantly creative midfield were outdone by a team who are filled with international superstars, worth in today's money, fees of £60 and £80 million.

Tottenham had a great journey on their debut season in the European competition, and they entertained throughout, but this was one comeback that proved too much. Next up for them is Arsenal, a completely different prospect. A win against Wenger's side may just make up for this quarter final tie forget.

Arsenal after £15 million Colombian - Video

Arsenal are reportedly chasing FC Porto's 25 year-old striker, Ramadel Falcao. Wenger is frustrated with both van Persie's injuries and Marouane Chamakh's inconsistent performances, and while Arsenal's Danish attacker Nicklas Bendtner showers in his own praise, Wenger has found a new striker to get him the important goals and goal threat next season.

Falcao is just what Arsenal need up front - a goalscoring striker - and has netted 23 goals in 28 games in the Portuguese League this season, while last year he managed an amazing 34 goals in 43 games. This goal flare has turned the head of some top European clubs incuding Valencia, AC Milan, and Arsenal's local rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, but Wenger will be hopin a £15 million will be enough to bring him to the Emirates.

FC Porto currently lead the Portuguese Liga, above fierce rivals Benfica, and it is ther Colombian strikers' valuable goals that have helped them to such a fortunate position. They will be reluctant to let thier superstar go, but with a big bid and the players mind on a possible transfer, it would be best for Jose Mournho's former club to let their player go.

£1 Billion for Modric

Well it doesn't look like Luka Modric will be packing his bags, moving away from Tottenham and heading up North to Manchester or staying in the area and joining Chelsea. Not unless United or Chelsea, the two clubs linked with the Croatian midfielder are prepared to pay £1 billion for him.

Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham manager has led this Spurs side to a Champions League quarter final, beating one of the most successful European teams in AC Milan on the way. Luka Modric played a vital part in both helping Tottenham into the top four last season and their brilliant, over achieving success of reaching the latter stages of the prestigious European competition this year. The Tottenham manager emphasised the invaluable qualities that the 25 year-old holds in the side with a rather exaggerated expected transfer fee:

"I wouldn't want to sell him for £100 million, not even for a billion.

"He's the hub of the team."

He made his point. Of course, Redknapp would sell Modric for £1 billion - not that anyone - not even Manchester City would pay that ludicrous amount. But it is a clear statement that Modric is not for sale, and if an offer were to come in, it would have to be quite a substantial amount.

Modric only signed a long term contract at Spurs last year, and the players' representative, Mario Mamic reiterated Redknapps sentiments:

"These are just rumours. Luka has a contract until 2016 and Tottenham have no plans to sell him. He has an excellent relationship with coach [Harry] Redknapp and only signed a contract extension with Spurs last summer."

The rumours that Mamic spoke of refer to apparent interest from several English clubs including Manchester United and Chelsea as well as Italian side Juventus and Inter Milan. Certainly, Modric has his fans; he is a fantastic player and has been described by the former Chelsea assistant Ray Wilkins as one of the best midfielder's in the Premier League. Gerard Houllier, the current Aston Villa manager also heaped praise on Modric:

"Not only is he a very hard worker, he has a good brain and he provided some calmness and composure to the midfield. His passing was neat and his contribution was outstanding. He was not only winning the ball, he was passing well. We thought that he was very influential. He did not just work hard, he made the other people play well around him."

 He may not be worth £100 million or £1 billion, but Luka Modric is certainly a fantastic asset to Tottenham, and understandably has the best teams in the world watching him.

Tottenham get the Job Done against AC Milan

Tottenham have done one better than their local rivals tonight with a winning draw against AC Milan, which saw the London side hold on to their first leg lead to progress to the quarter finals.

It wasn't the most eventful of games, with a William Gallas goal line clearance being the biggest save whilst the main controversy being Mathieu Flamini's continued aggressive tackles from the San Siro. In comparison with Arsenal's controversial, action packed clash at the Nou Camp yesterday, this game was more of a competitive kick around.

I thought there would be more attacking from both sides, however Milan were predominant in attack but were not being able to create any chances of real merit, apart from a few ambitious shots from Pato and Robinho. Zlatan Ibrahimovich whose biggest fan is himself, mustered a powerful freekick which needed a good save from Gomes in the Tottenham goal.

Spurs didn't take full advantage of their wing play which has been good to them in the previous European rounds - most notably against Inter with Bale. Lennon didn't have many opportunities to stretch his little legs in a super sprint, and was restricted to a few impressive crosses up to the towering Crouch who seemed intent on heading it down to van der Vaart. After one particularly good cross from Lennon, Crouch, who was only about 8 yards out and at not a particularly tight angle, hit it back where it came, hoping for an on runner to strike it in rather than going for goal himself.

The pressure that Spurs were under was nothing in comparison to Barcelona's relentless attacking of the Gunners yesterday, and so they coped with it well. Milan were pretty poor for a team who had to score a goal in truth, never looking threatening.

So Tottenham progress to the final eight, and Redknapp becomes the first English manger to take a team to this stage - which was quite surprising but quite an achievement. They will most probably hope to avoid Barcelona in the next round, although will surely love the opportunity to have a go at them, and perhaps get yet another one over on Arsenal who were quite harshly described yesterday by one Spanish journalist:

“This Arsenal is a losing team, they lack grandeur, ambition and talent, there’s only one Barça and are no imitations are accepted.”

Tottenham will not be wanting that sort of description.

What Does Carrick Deal Mean For United Transfers?

News that Michael Carrick signed a new Manchester United contract wasn't the most popular news among United fans, not least because he has had a below average season so far, in a pretty average and uncreative midfield.

The majority of United fans on forums have been raging with the news with comments like:

"F***ing hell, his demeanor on the pitch this season suggests he can't be arsed. There was a time a few months ago where it looked like he was protesting on the pitch but generally being a ****."

"Chelsea are rebuilding, and so must we. City will be stronger too. Next season, genuinely, we could be left behind if we don't improve the 11"

"We're doomed"

"F***ing joke of a midfield player for best part of 2 seasons"

"They must have a plan - a new plan - that he fits into somehow"

So why has Sir Alex Ferguson not seen what United fans are seeing? Does Ferguson think Carrick would be better than new signings - fresh-faced, skilful, creative and imaginative players who would rejuvenate a current old, fragile centre midfield.
Well, Sir Alex had this to say:

"I am delighted Michael has signed a new contract."

"He has been outstanding since joining us from Tottenham in 2006. He is a true professional and it is great he has committed his future to the club.”

Perhaps Sir Alex knows that no large funds will be available in the summer to sign any big name, top quality, proven players. Or perhaps the United manager is sticking to his understandable and obvious claim that there is no value in the market. When £25 million for, at best, good players are happening every other week because bottomless pits of money are available at certain clubs, inflation is out of control. United don't have that sort of money.

Expect more signings like the astute ones of  Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling. Manchester United scouts will have been sent out to search for midfielders that could, in the future, replace the likes of Paul Scholes and maybe even Owen Hargreaves who's injuries seem unfortunately endless. Players will be signed in the summer, but they will be young, and not in high demand - possible risks, unproven atPremier League level.

Manchester United have been linked to Alexis Sanchez, the Chilean winger playing for Udinese. The club have announced that a bid of close to £30 million was offered to them, with a completion due to go ahead in the summer. Udinese refused to identify the bidders.

United will be bidding for a goalkeeper in the summer, I'm sure we can assume that much in confidence. Again, the cheapest option is most likely to be considered - in this case, Maarten Stekelenburg of Ajax who is apparently worth around £10 million as opposed to other targets such as Manuel Neur and David de Gea, who's asking prices will be considerably higher.

United have been linked to several midfielders as they scour the globe to find a replacement for Scholes, including Nuri Sahin, Steven Defour and Marek Hamsik - all would cost at least over £10 million, with the highest valuation being around £35 million for Hamsik.
Perhaps it would be better to give some young players from the reserve team a go - there are certainly some talents in there, with Tom Cleverley, who was on loan at Wigan and Paul Pogba impressing. Pogba may be too young at the moment, but I would like to see more of Cleverley, but it looks very likely that Ferguson will be looking for a new play maker in the market this summer despite news of Carrick's contract extension.

Watch: Disgraceful Gattuso Sours Spurs Superb Night

Graeme Souness summed it up perfectly when he called Gennaro Gattuso a "dog" who past his best quite a time ago. He said this immediately after the Italian defensive midfielder had head butted Tottenham's assistant coach Joe Jordan, and subsequently began a scrap between half the coaching staff, the Spurs bench and some Milan players. It was such a poor show of sportsmanship and sets a terrible example to young footballers watching with enthusiasm as the disgusting behaviour from the 33 year-old unfolded.

Tottenham played fantastically, from a solid, committed defence, a hard working, creative midfield and a brilliant work ethic and astounding patience from the lone striker up front, Peter Crouch. He, and Tottenham got their just reward in the end, with a brilliant counter attack in which Aaron Lennon showcased his blistering pace to twist and turn around the last man to set Crouch up for a simple tap in.

Crouch was unbelievably patient and restrained all night, and not just because of some poor service. Yes, Gattuso was always there, nipping at his heels, complaining to the referee about innocuous challenges, and elbowing Crouch in the chin whenever he could jump high enough.

 It was immensely irritating to watch from the side of Spurs, and the general bad gamesmanship from AC Milan was highlighted when Corluka was victim of a vicious two footed, off the ground challenge. Rather than looking concerned about the writhing defender - who was obviously in quite a lot of pain, they complained, with Gattuso and Robinho at the forefront of the crowd, as some tried to usher Corluka and the attending medical staff on the pitch treating him.

This was added to once Gattuso got closer to someone else with a pulse who he could start a fight with. This time it was Joe Jordan, and as the Spurs coach shouted from the touchline, Gattuso bumbled over, words were said, and the Italian pushed him in the neck. It was quite amazing that Jordan didn't retaliate.

We all know how passionate the player is, but he purposely gets himself in needless scraps and confrontations just for the sake of it. Or perhaps he enjoys it, playing up to the crowd, knowing he has them on side, whilst getting himself into trouble.

He will miss the return leg at White Hart Lane to my relief, as he picked up a deserved yellow card after a typical strong challenge from behind. In truth he was lucky to get away with only a yellow throughout the game. Tottenham however were the well deserved winners and hold an impressive advantage over Milan even without Gareth Bale bursting down the left wing. Spurs could be heading for the quarters and beyond if they continue to show the hard working, resilient, strong minded and quality performances like this one.

Today's Transfer News

There has been a surprising amount of big name and big money moves going on this window, especially considering that the January window is usually quite slow and over hyped. Names such as Fernando Torres, Gareth Bale, Andy Carroll, Sulley Muntari and Stephane Sessegnon are the big names today, the day after Luis Suarez finally signed for Liverpool.

First of all, is Luis Suarez the partner or replacement for Torres at Anfield? The Spanish striker has submitted a transfer request to his club which has swiftly been rejected with a club statement asking Torres to honor the commitment he made to both Liverpool and the fans. His current contract ends in 2013, and it is believed that Chelsea have offered £35 million for the privilege of Torres playing in the blue shirt. Liverpool are now awaiting an improved offer, and despite a reported bid of £40 million and Danny Sturridge in the pipeline, Liverpool will do everything they can to fend Chelsea off their star striker.

Gareth Bale hasn't expressed his desire to leave Tottenham like Torres has Liverpool, but he is certainly attracting attention from top clubs around Europe. Inter Milan have felt the full force of Bale's brilliant left foot already and feel it would be better for them if he was on their side rather than the oppositions. However, they don't want to pay the £40 million valuation that Spurs have placed on Bale. Inters sporting director said that he received an email from the Tottenham chairman stating £40 million wouldn't be enough, and the Inter director replied by saying that the large amount isn't compatible with their strategies.
Perhaps Liverpool should value Torres at something ridiculous and get rid of pursuers that way?

Newcastle have rejected a bid for Andy Carroll of £23 million. The Magpies have once again been forced to reiterate the simple fact that the England striker is not for sale, and a Newcastle source called the bid 'paltry in the current climate'. The strikers 11 goals this season have helped his club to a respectable 9th in the League, and it his frightening presence up the field that has made him such a threat for Newcastle against opposing defenders that is attracting Spurs. Spurs know from Bale, that clubs with good players can be ever so stubborn about letting them go.

As Newcastle try to fight off interest for top players, their local rivals Sunderland are bringing them in as they try and snatch a European place. Inter Milan may not want to part with £40 million, but they don't mind letting Sulley Muntari go. Muntari is no £40 million, but he is still a good player, and certainly someone who can help out alongside Lee Cattermole in the Sunderland midfield.

Muntari is on loan until the end of the season, and the 26 year-old said of his move: "It feels great to be at Sunderland and to be back in English football. I'm very happy and from what I have seen here, it's going to be great."

Another 26 year-old joining Muntari at Sunderland is Stephane Sessegnon, for £6 million. The midfielder, who is described by his new manager Steve Bruce as someone who "can play on the left, on the right, through the middle - he's lightning quick and he's a match-winner." Bruce added that he thinks that Sessegnon will be a crowd favourite at the Stadium of Light. He has a while to prove his worth to the fans, as he signed a three and a half year deal at Sunderland.

Finally, Carlos Vela has officially joined West Brom on loan. The Arsenal striker was strongly linked to a move to Bolton, and Owen Coyle revealed that he had spoken to the players agent, but after being demanded to pay both the wages of the player and additional fees, pulled out.
Vela made only 13 appearances for Arsenal this season and 62 in total, scoring 11 times for the Gunners and the the West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo welcomed Vela to his club:

''I'd like to officially welcome Carlos, who is an exciting signing for this club. Carlos is a new attacking option for us who can play both centrally and in the wide areas.

''He also has great technical ability and pace and we're hoping he can make a big impact during the remainder of the season."

Tottenham 0 - 0 Man Utd: 9 men & Vidic Keep out Spurs

Tottenham huffed and puffed against Manchester United, but were unable to blow the mighty Vidic's defence down as the Red Devils just about made sure that their unbeaten run continues for another week. It was defence against attack as the midfield of Tottenham really controlled most of the play with Luka Modric spraying the ball around to his team mates in search of the killer pass, but it was just out of reach, largely due to the magnificent defence of United.

The two wide players for Tottenham, Bale and Lennon, who were expected to be the difference between the two sides didn't have the best of games, and were unable to make much of an impact. Only a couple of their crosses managed to find a Tottenham players waiting head, but no finish could be found. That was the problem for Tottenham really, they had most of the offensive possession, but just couldn't slice open the organised solidity of the defence, even when United went a man down.

Rafael da Silva was sent off in the 74th minute for a second "bookable" offence. I say "bookable" in inverted commas because the decision to give him that second yellow was, although seemingly inevitable, questionable. When the Brazilian defender picked up his first yellow card early on, I had a strong feeling that with his passion, commitment and refusal to back out of any tackle, the likely possibility was that he would get another. He did, but it wasn't from a malicious, dangerous or cynical tackle - it was a clip on the back of Assou-Ekkoto's heel as hey both ran for the ball. It was obvious that it was an accident - even the sometimes naive Rafael wouldn't have been stupid enough to purposely trip the opponent on a yellow card - but the referee, Mike Dean was his usual, unsympathetic or understanding self and harshly brandished the red.

As it happened, Bale wasn't able to exploit the left wing in the absence of Rafael, and the game ended with United on the attack - despite being under pressure from Tottenham ever since the dismissal.

Overall, United's play was pretty poor. It was clear they wanted to win, and definitely could have won, but the passing was bad. The final ball was disappointing. The attacking was almost non existent apart from a couple of good attacks which led to a few chances, but not as much as United would have liked. Perhaps the only real positive to be taken was the outstanding performance from the defenders, ad come to think of it, the togetherness of the team when they went a man down.

While earlier in the season United may have conceded a clumsy goal late on, they were resilient tonight, as the best centre back partnership in the League, Ferdinand and Vidic proved their worth to the United team with some invaluable tackles, headers away and clearance.

Manchester United go back to top spot, ahead of Manchester rivals City on goal difference while Tottenham move to within a point of fourth place Chelsea. It was, in the end, another clash of two strong teams that was, although entertaining, over hyped.

Tottenham v Man Utd - Will the Unbeaten Run Be Broken?

Tottenham will take on Manchester United on Sunday in a bid to jump above Chelsea and go fourth in the table whilst breaking United's 25 game unbeaten run. Tottenham are unbeaten in their last four home matches in the league against big four opposition, but will they be able to defeat the League leaders who beat them in a controversial 2 - 0 win earlier this season? They will certainly be looking for revenge.

Tottenham fancy themselves too, and probably with good reason. United have not been playing their best football, especially away from home - recording only two away wins in the last nine away games. Their home form and lack of losses is what is keeping them top. However, the away form must improve, and Sir Alex Ferguson will be hoping that the improvement will start with a convincing win at Tottenham.

The Spurs manager said:

"I couldn't see them remaining unbeaten. It's not impossible but I don't see them doing that. I don't see that they are on another planet to the other teams. They are favourites to win the league but not to go unbeaten."

"They haven't hit the heights this year, but they keep winning games and they haven't been beaten. We are playing well. We are a better team than played United last year. We have got every chance. We are at home. We will give them a real game."

The matches between these two team are often littered with controversial moments and often prove to be brilliant entertainment, as both sides love to attack and believe they can win. Tottenham and England defender Michael Dawson will be doing his best to prevent the United attack grabbing a winning goal on Sunday, and he also believes that his teammates are good enough to defeat United:

"Yes they're on a good run and are top of the form table for a reason. But, hopefully, on Sunday we can be the first team to beat them. We want to win things and that means the title. We want to be contenders year after year. And to do that you have to beat the likes of United."

He will be up against a particularly experienced attacker in Ryan Giggs. The Welsh veteran may not have the speed to get around as many players as he could when his sparkling career began, but he can still influence his teammates with his hardworking culture and natural skill. An appearance for Giggs will take his appearance count reach a massive 600 - only 6 appearances away from fellow United legend Sir Bobby Charlton. He is now 37, but his career glides on, and last week played the whole 90 minutes, which impressed his manager:

"His [Ryan Giggs's] fitness was fantastic last week, he was going for the whole 90 minutes up and down the pitch, and he's been doing that for two decades... There is no other player that's ever done that or ever likely to do that... He's quite an amazing man"

His old team mate, David Beckham will not be making an appearance however. He has been training with Tottenham, but a signing has not been completed and doesn't look as if it will be, so none of his trademark crosses will be dropping into the United box onto the head of Peter Crouch, or Spurs' top scorer this season, Rafael van der vaart. The Dutchman has scored 9 league goals, and will be a big threat to United's back line which may contain fellow countryman Edwin van dar sar and Nemanja Vidic after returning from injuries.

Gareth Bale will be threatening the young Rafael on the left wing, which should prove a tough test for the Brazilian who has started to play a lot more for United as Gary Neville eases out of the United team, looking set for retirement. Rooney could be back for the Red Devils, so there will be no lack of attacking football from both sides.

With Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea already recording wins this week-end, both teams need the win. Tottenham have the home crowds support and the motivation of breaking the 6th longest unbeaten run in Premier League history, while United will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League, and keep that brilliant run going.

L.A Galaxy Agree to Beckham Tottenham Loan

It looks as if David Beckham will definitely be returning to England to play for Tottenham, as L.A Galaxy have agreed to let him leave on loan. A Tottenham spokesperson confirmed: "LA Galaxy say they will loan."

Tottenham have always been the favourites to sign Beckham - and not only because they are the biggest club to have shown an interest. The presence of Philip Anschutz, the L.A Galaxy owner has most probably been the biggest factor in the MLS sides preference to let Beckham leave for Tottenham too; his company, 'The Anschutz Entertainment Group' are in partnership with Tottenham over plans to take over the Olympic Stadium, and it is thought, he has had the final say in Beckhams short term future.

There had been some anger in America that Beckham was seeking to leave the MLS on loan again, as he has no World cup to "prepare for" and his chances of gaining his spot in the England team are now quite slim. Some critics of the move have said that Beckham is being disloyal to Galaxy, and he isn't paying the club enough respect, while others claimed it was all just about grabbing headlines and making money. The Tottenham manager said on the week end:

 "One thing is for sure - David is not coming here for the money. He is a multi-millionaire. He just wants to play football and that tells you everything you need to know about him."

Quite right.

Beckham and his wife have also had their sons enrolled in a private school in England, confirming that the move to Tottenham will go ahead, as the family prepares for life back home.

Beckham is likely to join his new Tottenham team-mates in the next few days - meaning he will have settled back in England by the time Spurs play the midfielders former club, Manchester United on the 16th January.

Wise Wenger & Wilshere Wants Beckham at Arsenal

David Beckham is a footballer in demand at the moment, with several Premier League clubs interested in bringing him back to England in a short term loan deal. Tottenham, Newcastle and Blackburn have all confirmed their interest, and Jack Wilshere of Arsenal has also expressed his feelings that Beckham would be a great example to him and the team thanks to his "professional attitude, ability and experience". But by the looks of L.A Galaxy's stance on things, no deal will be done quickly. Why? The MLS side are baffled that Beckham wants to leave.

Its odd they think that. Absolutely no disrespect to the American football League, but it is nothing compared to English football. Can you blame Beckham for thinking about a move back to the place where he made his name; a place which turned him into a global star - a place he shouldn't have ever left? England is where the real competitive football is, and Beckham knows it. His Manchester United days were the best of his life and he cannot be blamed for wanting to relive something similar with Tottenham.

The move isn't about grabbing headlines, nor is it about making money - he has a life time supply of both. This is about playing some real football against world class professionals in an environment of a team challenging for the title - and it is also to maintain his fitness of course.

I couldn't agree more with what Arsene Wenger said:

"At the time he was practising here, he was ready. Since he had his injury I don’t know because I haven’t seen him practice or play.

"The only thing I can say, of course you don’t need to speak about his talent or his professional attitude because that was absolutely fantastic.

"I respect a lot, the guy who plays until the last day of his potential and doesn’t care too much about what people say because he knows he will never play again after that,”

Beckham of course trained at Arsenal a few years back and obviously impressed Wenger. Meanwhile, Jack Wilshere said on Twitter:

"Bring Becks to Arsenal. what a great Example he would be for all of us! His professional attitude, ability and experience! love 2 work with him!"

I can understand that Galaxy don't want a repeat of the last loan deal to AC Milan in which Beckham received a terrible injury to his achilles, and therefore missed a few games for the MLS side. But to be honest, I think they just don't want to let him go as they are afraid that he may become too comfortable in England. Comfortable enough to stay.

According to my poll which has been open since the beginning of the season, and has registered 420 votes, Arsenal will win the Barclay's Premier League 2010/11.

The Gunners received 226 votes - 53% of the overall total, while Manchester United came in at second with 122 votes and 29% of the overall total.

Chelsea were voted in 3rd with 31 votes and 7 % of the total, and the rest you can see for yourself.

Giovani dos Santos to Leave Tottenham for Liverpool?

Since joining Tottenham from Barcelona in 2008, Giovani dos Santos has never really had a fair run in the team. He has talent, he has the ability, but he doesn't get the game time at White Hart Lane, and with Tottenham's recent surge to success in the Champions League as wel as at home inthe Premier League, it seems as if a first team place will start to become even more unlikely for the tricky Mexican.

The 21-year-old had a good World Cup, playing his part, alongside Manchester United's Javier Hernandez, in helping Mexico through their group stage; beating France in the process. He was even nominated for the FIFA young player of the tournament award, which eventually went to German striker Thomas Muller. But on his return to Tottenham, he found that Rafael van der Vaart had been bought, and his place in the team was all but gone.

The Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp pointed out the former Barcelona man's main weakness:

"If he could pass a nightclub as well as he can pass a ball, he would be all right."

And although admitting that dos Santos has "bags of ability and fantastic skill", his dedication to the Tottenham cause was questionable.


Dos Santos is now being linked to a number of clubs in terms of destinations for a possible transfer, with Liverpool being among the names. He would provide good width to the Liverpool side, as well as his trickery and creativity - things that Liverpool need a big injection of if they are to climb back up to their perch with Roy Hodgson. At his young age of 21, dos Santos has plenty of time to improve his game, or his dedication to football, as Redknapp pointed out, and the fee shouldn't be too high since he hasn't exactly had a chance to showcase his talents at Tottenham.

The youngster has been labelled as a "flop" by some, but with only 10 League appearances under his belt, it really can't be judged whether the signing was a failure. He hasn't had a chance to show what he can really do at Tottenham, but with Liverpool, and their depleted squad, a little bit of Mexican skill and passion would be welcomed with relief to the injury ridden squad.

Arsenal the Latest Club to be Linked to Benzema

Karim Benzema has hardly set La Liga on fire since his £35 million 2009 move to Real Madrid. Players like Ronaldo and Higuain have been the main starters up front for the Spanish club, and the Frenchman has naturally been linked to a move away from the Bernabau as his frustration by lack of games has caused him to turn his head in search of new options.

Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson have been well known admirers of Benzema, but lost out in the summer 2009 race for his signature. It was also rumoured that Ferguon was preparing to swap Berbatov with Benzema. Unlikely as it was at the time, it is now even more unlikely after Berbatov almost made history with 5 goals in one game against Blackburn on Saturday.

Tottenham too have recently been linked to him. Since their soar to success in the Champions League, Tottenhams options for players has been broadly widened as they now have the attraction of European football. Yet despite manager Harry Redknapp stating that he liked the player, he said:

"certainly we haven’t made any enquires at all for him".

Aston Villa under their new French manager Gerard Houlier - the manager who has already brought one Frenchman back to the Premier League in Robert Pires is now reportedly interested in bringing in Benzema.

Meanwhile, Houllier's former club Liverpool, in need of a striker to partner Torres have been advised by Jamie Redknapp to snap up the former Lyon striker. His opinion may not mean much, in fact it means next to nothing in terms of Liverpool football club, but he said:

“Liverpool need a striker and they should look no further than Karim Benzema.

“The new Anfield owners have their first challenge: sign him.” 

Arsenal are now said to be prepared to smash their record transfer fee to buy Benzema for £25 million. Persistent injuries to important attackers such as Robin Van persie and Theo Walcott among others, as well as Nicklas Bendter's similar situation to Benzema - in his lack of game time, has apparently caused Wenger to feel the need to build on his attacking options.

Benzema is obviously doing something right to have all of these clubs after him. They are not just any old club either, these are some of the top Premier League clubs. But does the fact that a man who cannot get into a top Spanish team, but could get into any one of five top English teams simply exaggerate the fact that the Spanish League's quality is higher than the English? Maybe, but there is no arguing that the Barclays Premier League is still the most exciting in the world.

Redknapp Rules out Benzema Move but Players Must be Sold

A January transfer move for Karim Benzema has been ruled out by Harry Redknapp, while he also said that he will have to sell some of his players in order to purchase any improvements for his squad.

When asked about a possible move for the Frenchman, Redknapp said:

“There’s nothing in that,"

"He’s a good player, I like him, he looks a real talent. But certainly we haven’t made any enquires at all for him. There’s definitely nothing going on there at the moment."

“Before we can bring anyone in, I’ve spoke with the chairman, we need to shift one or two.

"It’s going to be a case of the only way we can do any business would be to let one or two go and whatever we get in we can go and invest.”

He hasn't ruled a move completely; by saying there is "nothing going on there at the moment" he was hinting that a move for him could be a possibility - maybe in the summer. Redknapp knows that Benzema would be cup tied in the Champions League, having played for Real Madrid, and as a competition that Tottenham are aspiring to do well in, they need their big name players. Benzema would be one of them.

If Tottenham were to invest in a new striker in January, they would most probably look closer to home, at a lower Pemier League team. Andy Carroll of Newcastle has been tipped as a possibility.

As for these players that Redknapp will have to let go, and Croatian play maker Niko Kranjcar has been rumoured to want out of White Hart Lane, seeking first team football. Liverpool were rumoured to be interestd for £7 million, while Italians Juventus are also interested.

After guiding his team to an inspired comeback against rivals Arsenal at the week end, Harry Redknapp is leading Tottenham in the right direction. He believes that his team can win the title this year, and the addition of top players that a Champions League team that they now are can attract, Tottenham are looking good for the future.
